A baby shower gives expecting parents a day to relax and have fun with family and friends. They don’t have to do anything but enjoy themselves.
Hosting a beautiful shower takes some planning, but the entire process is actually fun, especially if you get a few friends to help out.
As long as mommy’s comfortable and happy, it’s a great shower and she’ll love you for putting together such an amazing day.
Modern Or Traditional
Traditionally, when you host a baby shower, it’s a women-only event. However, more modern showers include everyone. This allows the couple to enjoy the shower together. Obviously, it’s completely up to the mom-to-be. Or, if it’s a surprise shower, it’s up to the host. If you’re opting for a modern shower, you’ll likely have more guests to account for couples and additional friends.
In-Person Or Virtual
Even before the pandemic hit, virtual baby showers were a thing. This happened because sometimes grandparents couldn’t travel or the couple recently moved and couldn’t be with their friends.
Decide if you’ll host the shower in person at your home or have a virtual event. With a virtual event, you’ll still want to decorate the area, but decide on a platform that lets everyone attend online. Ask guests to decorate or use a virtual background to make the event more festive and beautiful.
Gender-Based Or Gender-Neutral Theme
Decorating for a beautiful baby shower is often as easy as going with pink or blue based on the gender of the baby. If the parents don’t know yet or have decided to wait, don’t worry. Just go with a gender-neutral theme instead. The great part is you can get incredibly creative with gender-neutral decorations and they also work even if you do know the gender in advance.
Some ideas to consider include:
- Baby-related decorations in yellow, blush, white and grey
- Jungle or forest theme with a variety of greens, stuffed animals and even palm leaf-themed plates
- Rainbows for a fun, light-hearted shower
- Mixing pink, blue and yellow to cover everything
- Beach (great for outdoor showers to create a relaxing, yet elegant atmosphere)
Once you have your theme in place, it’s easier to buy decorations. Going with the typical baby shower party favors in your chosen colors always works well.
Create Themed Invitations
Knowing your theme also helps with creating invitations. Try to give guests at least two-weeks’ notice, but a month is better. This is especially true if you’re inviting out of town guests.
You can buy invitations or even print your own. Minted has a beautiful selection of invitations, including virtual invitations you can easily customize for your needs. This helps you keep your shower on budget, while still making it beautiful.
Don’t Forget The Food
Food is a must-have for any beautiful baby shower. For longer showers, consider having several courses, such as appetizers, lunch/dinner and dessert. For shorter showers, a table with finger foods and cupcakes or other small desserts works well. To make it easier, have the food catered in.
Keep It Entertaining
You’ve decorated the room and it looks like a baby shower dream. But, you don’t want everyone sitting around bored. Every great shower needs games. The Bump lists over 40 shower games to keep your guests and the parents having fun the entire time.
Of course, you don’t have to just do games. Create a slideshow of pictures showing all the guests as babies or little kids (which also works as a guessing game to match the picture with the guest). You can also put together a scrapbook or baby book, if the parents don’t already have one. Or, have a movie night for everyone to relax and enjoy.
